AFFORDABLE AND SIMPLE HACKS FOR YOUR POSTPARTUM PERIOD
With the rise of postpartum consciousness, especially online. Lots is being sold to us. I wanted to compile a list, a digestible blog post for maidens and mothers who may not have thousands of $ to invest in the postpartum period but still yearn to give their postpartum season, devotion, reverence and mindful preparation.
If I had limited funds I would focus on these 3 things…
Re-mineralizing (celtic salt, adrenal cocktails, miso, seaweed, bone broth, meat stock, nettle tea, magnesium)
Warmth (socks, slippers, heat pack, black sesame oil abhyanga, warm food & drinks)
Acknowledgement (self acknowledgement, journaling, writing, therapy, talking about my birth with anyone who’d listen, having my partner & community give me words of affirmation)
(These of course can be different for everyone depending on your values)
Filling Mums cup, so she can pour that loving vitality into baby
Hacks for a simple and affordable postpartum:
Opt for tubby grip for the abdomen from the pharmacy instead of a $80+ belly bind
Invest in bulk high quality salt
Make your own ghee from Woolies organic unsalted butter
Sew your own Faja - can use fabric from the op shop or any cotton on sale at spotlight
Simplify your herbs, choose 2-3 that are your allies for postpartum. Ones I’d choose to work with personally: Ginger, Raspberry Leaf, Chamomile. Also herbs like Rosemary and Mugwort are usually super abundant (especially where I live), so ask friends for clippings, or do a prebirth forage.
$35 Kmart Trolley Cart, to have all your bits and bobs close by and accessible, especially for when you’re feeding bub.
Ask your friends and family to make you a meal, and make a Meal Train
Get yourself a thermos, for all the hot beverages
Pre make in bulk bone broth & have in freezer, using your scrap veggies, and cheap bones from the butchers & a variety of animals. If you fish; keep those fish bones. When you cook a whole chicken; keep that carcass.
Do you already have Spotify premium? They now offer audio books and have an amazing selection of birth & postpartum books, to save you $ on paperbacks, shipping etc. Also pop into your local library.
